ROBOBugs! Invasion of the Giant Insects
Sponsored by Truly Nolen of America
September 28, 2007 – January 6, 2008
Museum of Discovery & Science, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
A 65-mousecar procession surrounding the Museum of
Discovery and Science (401 SW 2nd Street) in Fort Lauderdale
highlighted the kickoff of the Museum’s ROBOBugs!
Invasion of the Giant Insects exhibit on Friday, September
28. Several drivers entered the museum exhibit with
tools to help persuade the ROBOBugs from taking over
the city. The exhibit runs through Sunday, January
6, 2008.
Sponsored locally by Truly Nolen of America, the exhibit
features robotic insects of giant proportions, gives
visitors a new perspective while exploring these amazing
creatures 40 to 600 times their actual size. Come face-to-face
with a 22-foot-long praying mantis that normally is
only four inches long in nature! Visitors can investigate
six complete insects: two Atlas beetles, a Chinese
praying mantis, a stick insect, a swallowtail caterpillar
and a larger-than-you’d-ever-care-to-meet desert
locust.
In addition to the colossal creepy crawlers, the exhibit
also includes several interactive displays and magnified
heads of a honeybee, dragonfly and mosquito. These
Godzilla-sized insects are robotic creatures created
by Kokoro, a leading designer of robotic exhibits.
“We were excited when the Museum’s staff
asked us to create an interactive journey into the
world of insects,” said Murray. “I am
also proud that our design team was asked to help visitors
feel as if they’re joining our mousecar on a
trip through the exhibit.”
“As this exhibit will help visitors understand
a little more about the amazing world of insects, we
are happy that Truly Nolen is lending their educational
resources for all to enjoy,” said Marlene Janetos,
Vice President of Visitor Services, Marketing & Communications,
Museum of Discovery and Science. |
