American Roach Facts

  • Typically 2 inches in length and reddish brown in color.
  • Also known as Palmetto or Flying Water Bug and is the largest of the roach species.
  • Attracted to sweets, grains, hair and soap and often are found in the foundation of homes, under wood and near moisture sources.

The American cockroach is very common in the southern United States, where it is sometimes called "waterbug" or "palmetto bug." The American cockroach is about 1-1/2 inch long, reddish brown with light markings on the thorax. They like hot, humid conditions and have fully developed wings.
