A restaurant in Kaanapali recently reported it is continuing to treat a bed bug problem that was first discovered last summer. The owners of Leilani's on the Beach said pest control services treated the restaurant furniture for the bugs, but the population continues to thrive in the facility.
After several treatments, the owners of the restaurant believe the bed bug infestation is under control, and pest control services will continually monitor the facility in case any bugs were missed, The Maui News reported.
According to Michael Botha, president of a pest control company, infestations of bed bugs in the food industry are not common, but they do occur. Any public building is vulnerable to a bed bug invasion, as the populations have become more resilient to do-it-yourself treatments and pest control services are required for an adequate eradication, the source reported.
With bed bug complaints sweeping the nation, many communities are becoming proactive in their preventative measures. Residents of Sherwood Park are hosting a bed bug awareness seminar to keep people living in apartment complexes aware of the warning signs of bed bugs and inform them about what to do if the pests are discovered, Sherwood Park news reported. Many bed bugs invade homes after being transported from a previously infested site. Thus, residents should be on the look out for tiny brown bugs in their beds and furnishings.
