Restaurants cited for rodent droppings, roaches

Two restaurants in the University of Oklahoma Memorial Union were recently cited for health code violations during recent inspections. Both the Wendy's and Sbarro on campus might be required to contact professional pest control services to improve the conditions of the facilities.

According to the Oklahoma Daily, multiple rodent droppings on the floor and black residue on fryer baskets were found in the Wendy's, while Sbarro's restaurant had live roaches under the front counter. Typically, when an inspector finds these violations, the Cleveland County Health Department is notified of the situation and conducts follow-up inspections at the facilities. During these follow-ups, inspectors will specify what needs to be fixed and the restaurant owner will explain what corrective actions have already been taken.

A pizzeria on the southside of Jacksonville, Florida, was closed temporarily due to health code violations cited during an inspection. During a routine review of Rosina Pizza's operations, a safety and sanitation inspector with the state's Division of Hotels and Restaurants found more than 20 critical violations to report, including rodent droppings and live roaches. The restaurant had dead roaches throughout the kitchen, 25 to 30 rodent droppings in the storage area, and live roaches under machines and other equipment in the kitchen, the Florida Union-Times reported.
