Ants

Ants
Size 1/16 to About 1/2 of an Inch in Size
Color Black, Dark Brown, or Red in Color
Description
  • Ants live in social colonies, building nests above and underground with a network of paths allowing for the worker ants to travel back and forth. They can enter the household through small cracks in floor boards, windows, and doors. Making their nests inside, feeding off sugars, fats and proteins that the ants can easily find in a house. For best prevention, keep all openings to the outside closed, and keep all foods securely sealed and put away.
  • Ants live in colonies where they all work together serving an individual function. The colony consists of three castes, Workers, Queens and Males. The individual ants may go out of the nest to consume and gather the food materials for the rest of the colony, however the rule of thumb is that no more than 5% of the population leaves the colony at any one time.
  • Some ants have been known to transmit diseases such as Salmonella and Staphylococcus.
  • Control Advice To help avoid ant invasion, remove any decaying plant materials from the yard. Check to make sure that all possible entries, the doors, windows, and crevices are sealed and secured. Put all food away in a tightly sealed container. Look for mounds of debris, a sign of possible nesting, call for a Free Inspection and make an appointment with Truly Nolen.
