NocturnalLive outdoors, but enter homes seeking moisture Feed mainly on plants - grass - clothing - carpet - paper - cotton - linen and proteins Crickets are commonly found living under rocks, in yards, in wood piles or around plants and trees; rubbing their wings together to create the all too familiar chirping sound. The males create the sound we all have come to know and the female crickets follow the sounds for mating. They prefer to live outside, but may enter a home in the summer or fall months to search for warmth, moisture, food, proteins and a place to live. While crickets may not cause any harm to a person's health, they can be a long term pest in a household by eating linens and cloths and a host of other items commonly found within a structure. Crickets can be found in every continent in the world except for Antarctica. They are often omnivores or scavengers, feeding on plants as well as decaying materials, fungi and other organic matter. Outdoors the crickets have a positive impact by helping breakdown old plant materials. Indoors the impact is negative by providing unwanted chirping sounds, and consuming proteins in foods and chewing holes in numerous other household products.

Crickets are common in the summer and fall. Remove leaf litter and heavy ground cover and make sure any cracks are sealed so they don't make their way inside. |
