Truly Nolen Leadership Center Hosts Ribbon Cutting in Tucson Wednesday, February 24

On Wednesday, February 24, the same day Mr. Truly Nolen celebrates his 88th birthday, his family-owned company officially opens its brand-new 12,000+ square foot Truly Nolen Leadership Center (434 S. Williams Blvd, Tucson).

Grand opening festivities include a ribbon cutting program beginning at 1:45p followed by tours of the facility. Speakers will include Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild, a representative of Congresswoman Martha McSally’s office, and company executives. In addition, Truly Nolen Pest Control will make a special announcement and presentation to the Boy Scouts of America.

Previously, the company’s training department and classroom settings for the West were based in Phoenix; however, with corporate headquarters in Tucson for over 60 years, the company wanted to extend its presence in the local community.

“We were excited when we were able to purchase the land and buildings that will make up our new Leadership Center because it is an investment in our people and their ongoing development,” said Scott Nolen, Truly Nolen CEO/President. “The Leadership Center also cements our corporate presence in Tucson, which is particularly meaningful to me as a multi-generational family-owned company.”

The Truly Nolen Leadership Center includes courtyard and stadium seating, full functioning commercial kitchen, garage-style cookout area, auditorium space for classes, a mock home setup designed to replicate almost any possible pest scenario for training purposes, and a “Bug Room” for both employees and the public to explore. This room, complete with live insects in displays along with a pest identifier section, will be used by team members, professionals in supportive industries, and even youth in classrooms. On Monday, February 22, Mesa Verde Elementary 2nd graders will be the first to experience the unique “Bug Room” environment.

“Our employees, franchisees and vendors will be able to travel from all over North America to this campus to learn and train,” said Greg Weatherly, Truly Nolen Executive Vice President. “Our annual managers’ and franchisees’ meeting was held at the Leadership Center last month, and we look forward to helping nearby hotels and restaurants as well as venues like Old Tucson Studio in the months and years ahead.”

Pest Alert for Atlanta Residents: The Zika Virus and Chagas Disease

Recently in the news, there have been several reports of viruses coming from mosquitoes and insects that Atlanta residents should be aware of. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently been communicating information on the Zika virus and the Chagas virus.

The Zika virus is a mosquito-borne virus that has been linked to brain damage and birth defects in babies in Brazil. Pregnant women are being warned to re-think traveling to Latin America and the Caribbean at this time since there is no vaccine for this virus.

The Chagas virus has also been on the news, this virus comes from the “kissing bug” that transmits a parasite, trypanosoma cruzi, to those it infects. Like the Zika virus, most of those infected visited Latin America where it is most often found.

It is important to be aware of deadly pests that are emerging. Truly Nolen of Atlanta offers a mosquito control program and a Four Seasons Pest Control program that include preventative measures to keep your family safe. Call for an inspection 678-561-2847.

10-Year-Old Boy Truly Understands the Meaning of the Holiday Season

As the holidays approach, paying it forward and giving back to those who are less fortunate than you are two common themes. On Sunday, December 13, 10-year-old Nathaniel Sandoval and his father Jorge distributed blankets to homeless people in the Santa Ana courthouse area as part of the younger Sandoval’s vision to help others in need.

Most youngsters who attend elementary school are thinking about what toys they will be getting for the holidays or which relatives they will be seeing. Jorge, the Branch Manager for Truly Nolen’s San Diego location, said his son was motivated by something he sees every day on his way to school in Santa Ana.

“One day, we were driving home from his grandparents’ house and he asked me if I could help him with something he had been thinking about,” said Jorge Sandoval. “He said he wanted to make the homeless people he sees on his way to school a little more comfortable and he wanted to provide them with blankets because they probably do not have friends and family that can help them.”

For his part, Nathaniel said he was reading a social studies book at his school in which he saw people giving blankets to the homeless. He wanted to help the people he sees everyday like the people in the book. “Once my father agreed to assist me, my father’s boss allowed me to talk to the other managers in his area by video conference and I asked them for help donating blankets as well,” said Nathaniel Sandoval. “My mother, godmother, aunts, and grandparents are also helping me collect blankets.”

Nathaniel named his project “Giving Warmth & Spreading Hope”, and with the help of his family, friends, and other Truly Nolen branches in Southern California, they will be riding around delivering blankets to those who need them. “I want to bring warmth and I want to give them hope, and I’m happy so many people have agreed to help,” said Nathaniel Sandoval. “I feel really good when I help people.”

“My son is a special kid and I could not be prouder of him,” said Jorge Sandoval. “I’m also happy so many of my co-workers as well as Nathaniel’s family members are donating blankets to help with this project.”

For those interested in donating blankets for future distribution, please call Jorge Sandoval at (714) 326-5848.
