ANTS

Services for ants can vary, however for the most part the following treatments are the most practiced and effective:

  * Crack and Crevice Treatment – This type of treatment is completed using either a dust or liquid application. These are applied directly to the areas of activity. Once a treatment is applied there is the strong possibility that the activity can continue to be seen for several days. This is due to the way the product is designed to interact with the visible pest but also the unseen colony. The products are designed to be carried to the colony and transferred by contact. Due to this activity can continue briefly.

  * Barrier Treatment – This type of treatment is designed more for a preventative measure as it is not applied directly to any areas of activity but spread out around various areas of the site itself. This can include the interior or exterior (some states do not allow for exterior treatments outside of the foundation/framing of the facility). To allow for a more successful and preventative barrier, the treatment is not used to cover all areas of the interior/exterior but rather in sections with gaps between. This allows for a rotating barrier and helps to keep a fresh more active preventative barrier in place.

ROACHES

Services for roaches can vary, however for the most part the following treatments are the most practiced and effective:

  * Crack and Crevice Treatment – This type of treatment is completed using either a dust or liquid application. These are applied directly to the areas of activity. Once a treatment is applied there is the strong possibility that the activity can continue to be seen for several days. This allows for a rotating barrier and helps to keep a fresh more active preventative barrier in place.

  * Intensive Treatment – This type of treatment is designed for heavier infestations and is usually performed after hours due to the volume of product to be applied. This is often an last result treatment due to the possible impact to customers and employees. Treatment can be focused on a specific area or a larger area of a site, however it rarely will include the entire facility.

SPIDERS

Services for spiders can vary, however for the most part the following treatments are the most practiced and effective:

  * Crack and Crevice Treatment – This type of treatment is completed using either a dust or liquid application. These are applied directly to the areas of activity. Once a treatment is applied there is a lesser possibility that the activity will be seen.

  * Barrier Treatment – This type of treatment is designed more for a preventative measure as it is not applied directly to any areas of activity but spread out around varies areas of the site itself. This can include the interior or exterior (some states do not allow for exterior treatments outside of the foundation/framing of the facility). This allows for a rotating barrier and helps to keep a fresh more active preventative barrier in place.

  * Web Wiping – A web wipe is generally performed around the exterior and followed while on site with an application to prevent spiders from developing webs and nests in the area again.

INDIAN MEAL MOTH OR STORED PRODUCT PESTS

Services for Indian Meal Moths, or other stored product pests can vary, however for the most part the following treatments are the most practiced and effective:

  * Storage Area Treatment – This type of treatment is completed via a liquid application in addition to possible mating disruptors and monitors. The treatment is generally performed in the area where the product has been stored or shelfed. These type of pests are generally brought in already in products from the manufacturing process. One extremely important part of the treatment is the removal of the infested product as soon as possible to prevent further infestation. The monitors are designed to work like a glue traps with a small pheromone inside to help draw them to the monitor. In larger infestations the installation of mating disruptors can be installed to assist with the growth of the infestation.

  * Breakdown Treatment – In rare cases of severe infestations the breakdown of all shelving is needed and an afterhours treatments must be performed. This is an extremely rare treatment outside of high square footage pet foot suppliers or distributors, however must like with a storage area treatment the key to a successful remediation is the removal of all infested product as soon as possible. This does not mean simply removing from the sales floor or stock room area but from the building itself and preferably directly to the dumpster area.

WASPS AND HORNETS

Services for wasps, hornets, and other flying stinging insects (excluding bees) are generally pretty straight forward:

  * Direct Application Treatment – This type of treatment is where there is a open source of activity that can be treated directly. This is generally done from a distance for the safety of the tech as well as anyone in the general area. The treatment is fast and effective however at times we will leave the nest so that any returning insects are exposed to the product applied directly to the nest.

  * Foam Application Treatment – This is only used when the infestation or activity is found inside a wall gap or wall itself and we are unable to apply a treatment directly. This is a very rare treatment for these type of insects as they is usually an entry and exit point found and we can treat through these points. We generally do not recommend this type of treatment as it can lead to other issues and pests.

RODENTS

Services for rodents can vary by type of rodent and level of infestation. For the purpose of general education I am limiting possible treatments to the most common approaches.

  * Snap Traps/Glue Boards – This type of treatment is most commonly used for mice or smaller rodents. Glue boards and snap traps are placed throughout various locations in the site, including but not limited to gaps, spaces behind furniture and drop ceiling (where needed). For preventative or longer term issues the use of Tin Cats can be used in the interior, these are small metal devices that glue boards are placed in and generally placed around entry door areas. These require an additional cost and generally a monthly PM or weekly follow up program.

  * T-Rex and Trappings – The use of T-rex traps are generally needed when dealing with rats opposed to smaller varieties of mice. A T-rex trap is a more aggressive larger trap that is placed by itself in various areas of the site, but in areas of the site where no one can accidentally come in contact or trigger the trap. The installation of T-Rex traps needs to be accompanied by scheduled trappings as once a capture is occurred with a T-Rex the chance of odor in the site increases.

  * Exterior Bait Stations – These are used when a site has exterior pressure from either landscaping or surrounding businesses. These are used as a deterrent as bait is placed in them that is designed to make rodents ill and stay away from the location, these are usually placed out of sight of customers (back of store and by side entrances). Exterior bait stations must be accompanied by no less then monthly PM services.

BED BUGS

Services for possible bed bugs can vary by type of location/business. For the purpose of general education I am limiting possible treatments to the most common approaches.

  * Inspection– This insect typically will require an inspection to take place prior to any service being performed. Depending on state regulations and environmental issue some inspections will need to be performed with the use of a K-9 to locate possible bed bugs. In most states however, a standard inspection by a technician is acceptable. The inspections will be done throughout the location, but focused on areas where this particular insects can survive. If no activity is found no further treatment options are needed, if signs of possible issue is found, a glue board with a pheromone lure can be placed in the area of concern to allow for further inspection. This would require a follow up visit to check the trap to see if any bed bugs are found.

  * Treatment options– The treatment options for this pest also vary by location/business type. The basic treatment approach for small levels of activity are as follows. Treatment applied to infected area using a B & G sprayer or a duster depending on access and type of area. In cases of limited activity is found this will be completed doing a spot treatment of areas where activity is seen. If it is found that the location in question has a high level of infestation, a more detail plan will be created around the areas of infestation and type of business. This could result in an after hours treatment that would require prep work by the store and a larger and more chemical heavy treatment completed. Again however, larger infestation will be a case by case situation and potentially driven by local or state regulations as well.
