Flour Beetle Facts

  • Flour beetles consume wheat and other grains commonly found in kitchens and pantries.
  • They do not bite or sting even though they have chewing mouthparts.
  • An adult flour beetle measures 1/8 of an inch in length.

Along with a bevy of moths and other insects, flour beetles belong to a troublesome class of bugs known as pantry pests. Members of the beetle genera Tribolium or Tenebrio, two types of flour beetles, red flour beetles and confused flour beetles infest homes in the US.
