Ticks are parasitic arachnids and need blood meals from animals to survive. Most dog owners would only encounter these ticks by picking them up in the wilderness, because American dog tick young (nymphs) only live and survive on small wildlife (rodents, rabbits, etc.) but can survive on canine blood as adults. Pet owners should thoroughly inspect their animals anytime they have been out for walks in the country and remove any ticks found.
With Halloween just around the corner, its time for larger-than-life creepy, crawly creatures skittering across lawns, lurking in dark alleyways and dropping out of nowhere to frighten their hapless victims.
Keep on top of your pets’ pest potentials this spring and summer, by ensuring that your four-legged friends visit the vet for flea and tick prevention treatments or by purchasing effective topical drop treatments and ingested flea and tick products on the market.
